What are some of the benefits of massage therapy?

According to the 6th edition of "Theory & Practice of Therapeutic Massage" by Mark F. Beck, the benefits of massage therapy can include the relieved stress, headache, insomnia and tension; reduced mental strain resulting in better productivity; decreased muscle soreness; increased range of motion; deep relaxation; and feeling more equipped to cope with day-to-day situations.

Is massage therapy for everyone?

Massage therapy offers numerous benefits; however, massage therapy may be detrimental for people with certain conditions, such as severe uncontrolled hypertension and fever. If you have any questions regarding whether massage is appropriate for you, please check with your health care provider.

What products will be used for my massage?

At the Massage Institute of Cleveland, we use Ivy-Arnica-Aloe botanical based massage oil (Massage FX, formula with herbal extracts) and the Thera Pro Deep Tissue massage lotion (infused with Sunflower Seed & Grapeseed Oils). If you have sensitive skin, you may also bring your own oil or lotion.

Do I need an appointment to get a massage?

Yes. We encourage you to book appointments in advance to ensure you get the day and time that works the best for your busy schedule. You may be able to get a walk-in appointment, but we cannot guarantee there will be openings in the schedule.

What will be the experience level of my massage therapist?

Our team is composed of both student therapists and licensed massage therapists (LMT).

Because we are a teaching institute, we greatly appreciate when clients come in to support students; that helps them accumulate clinical hours required for graduation. However, if you have a more specific issue, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with an LMT, who will be able to place you on a treatment plan designed specifically for your needs and desired health goals.

Do you offer package deals?

Yes! We offer different package deals depending on the type of massage, duration of the massage, and experience level of the therapist. Visit the section Make an Appointment from our menu to see our options.

How can I apply for financial aid to pay for tuition?

You can start by reaching out to us and we'll help you find a scholarship for which you qualify. We have never turned a student away solely because of finances and are not planning on starting anytime soon. We are here to help you earn your license.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand emergencies happen. However, we ask that you cancel 24 hours in advance whenever possible to avoid same-day cancellation fees.

What should I wear during my massage?

You may undrape to your comfort level.

You will be under a sheet throughout the entire massage. Your massage therapist will only uncover the area being worked on at a time, and redrape it before moving onto another area. You will be covered and secure during the whole session. We uphold our therapists to the highest levels of professionalism and ethical standards.

Can I talk during my massage?

If you wish to talk during your session, that is completely up to you. This is your time to relax and refresh--mind , body and spirit.

Will the massage hurt?

If you are hurting or sore, you may experience a slight discomfort. However, a massage should never be painful. We encourage you to communicate with your therapist about your preference on pressure. Always and at any time, let your therapist know if he or she is using too much or not enough pressure.

Can I book a massage for me and my partner?

Yes. We have a room large enough to accommodate a couple's massage. You will have tables side by side and be able to relax and unwind.
